Environment
We change course, day after day. We have the duty to protect our planet.
Our commitment is on several fronts: each small or great initiative is able to contribute to protect the environment and the planet, to reduce temperature rise and safeguard biodiversity. We have the duty preserve the planet especially for future generations.
Plastic-free materials: we have distributed reusable metal bottles to avoid the use of plastic. We have chosen environmentally friendly gadgets such as pens made using PET resin from plastic bottles.
Biodegradable debit card: our international debit card is made of sustainable material in order to reduce the use of plastic.
On the side of the sea: we support organizations committed to protecting our seas from pollution and its consequences.
From June 2021 to June 2024, we joined LifeGate PlasticLess, LifeGate's project to reduce sea pollution, by adopting several Seabins, innovative devices capable of capturing plastics and microplastics from waters.
Thanks to our partnership with LifeGate, we collected almost 3 tons of floating waste from the sea, the equivalent in weight to over 200,000 0.5L plastic bottles.
Since July 2024, we have been supporting Plastic Free, a non-profit association committed to fighting plastic pollution through concrete projects and raising awareness among people.
Plastic Free is also engaged in saving sea turtles. Its task is to rescue those in distress, cure, rehabilitate and release them back into the sea.
Between July and December 2024, thanks to the clean-up days involving hundreds of volunteers in four Italian cities, 1,000 kg of plastic and waste were collected and removed from the environment.
To raise public awareness and share the importance of more responsible choices, we have created the web series “Sail & Pepper. From the sea to food in search of a more sustainable future”.
It was publicised on the social channels of IBL Banca, and touched on issues such as the protection of the marine ecosystem and a focus on sustainable food consumption that is attentive to resources.
The contents published reached an average of 150.000 users.
More aware for a better future: we offered our new account holders the opportunity to take a course free of charge to become a “Sustainability Ambassador” through the Lifegate e-learning platform and to get information to be put into practice on a daily basis.
More trees: we have contributed to the planting of more than 150 mangrove trees in Madagascar, each capable of removing up to 30 kg of CO2 every year. The initiative was carried out in collaboration with Healthy Virtuoso, a start-up active in the promotion of a healthy lifestyle, involving the group's employees in challenges on healthy and sustainable behaviour.
Less paper: we have made a platform containing all the promotional and communication materials useful for sales available for our sales network. The promotional materials may be used for online submission or be downloaded, customised and printed as needed. This platform made it possible to avoid mass printing and encourage the use of digital tools for the promotion of products to the public.
For a just cause – that of the environment – we suspended the traditional production of calendars and diaries, with paper savings in this case as well (over 20 quintals on an annual basis).
Good internal practices: over time, the group has undertaken initiatives aimed at reducing the environmental impact of its work activities through the reduction of paper consumption and the gradual disposal of non-recyclable materials.
It also conducts internal campaigns on environmental awareness, waste reduction and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle.
This path includes the #FaiECO awareness campaigns, the creation of a carpooling application to encourage employees to share their means of transport on the home-work journey and the annual drafting of the Home-to-Work Travel Plan for the Headquarters in Rome. The Home-to-Work Travel Plan is created by analysing the results of the annual survey addressed to its employees. It is sent to the Municipality of Rome and contributes to the implementation of the sustainable mobility strategies of Roma Capitale.
The IBL Banca Group has significantly reduced CO2 emissions following the adoption of smart working and the promotion of remote working relationships, through video conferences and e-learning training courses.
